I bought this book for a class and was surprised to find how much I enjoyed reading it. It is comprehensive and simple enough for young readers and gives a great grasp on not only women in art but also the status of women throughout history. This book tells the stories of women frequently left out of history books. I would highly recommend this book for education and even leisure reading.
I had to read this book for my Women in Literature and Visual Arts class. It was certainly informative, and very organized. The pictures were black and white, which is always disappointing for an art book, but it was primarily text-based, so that was not too much of a problem. The "Present" that its title refers to is 2001. It was helpful for both this class and an Art History course that I later took. I suppose if you really enjoy art, especially art by (and about) females, this book is worth reading.

This book is well written and is a great starting point for students and non-students alike who are interested in learning more about women artists and the times that they lived in and in many cases overcame. Very engaging and well organized.

I know I'm just renting this book, but why did I get one that's pretty much falling apart? There are pages hanging out and I'm not sure if it even has all the pages at this point.It says 'acceptable' on the back. I thought it would at least be still in one piece. I just don't want to be responsible for damages I didn't do.I got it in time for classes, but still.
